Drawings of the montages in Figure 4, showing the foveal “megacolumns.” All macaques have larger columns in the foveal representation, but not all animals show this effect so conspicuously. In the right hemisphere, the dark columns serving the intact left eye appear relatively shrunken in the foveal representation. This provides another example of local imbalances in column areas that can occur on the operculum. This peculiarity tends to occur near the V1/V2 border or in the foveal area. MC, Monocular crescent.
