Rostrocaudal coordination mediated by the lateral funiculus. A, A lateral bridge (left schematic) was created at the L3 level. The right schematic shows the transverse extent of the bridge (thick line). Rostrocaudal alternation, observed before the lesion (B), persisted after creation of the bridge (C). On the ipsilateral side, caudal rhythmic activity showed a reduced modulation amplitude, but only tonic activity was observed contralaterally to the bridge.
