The fraction of dead cells was calculated from counts of cultures stained with trypan blue 24 hr after treatments. Cell death in cultures treated with vehicle (0.07 ± 0.01; n = 18,846) was subtracted. Ca2+ overload was determined as in Figure1. Mitochondrial depolarization was derived as 1-Recovery Ratio (Fig.4). Values denote mean ± SEM; numbers in parentheses indicate the population of cells examined.
