Time periods from which subjects drew their autobiographical memories in response to 75 single-word cues. The temporal distribution of recollections is shown for patients GD, LM, WH, and for a group of five normal control subjects (CON). Of 75 possible recollections, GD had 46, LM had 56, and WH had 45. Control subjects had a mean of 65.2 responses (range, 51–71). Note that GD was born in 1940, so the Before 1950 time point represents episodes that occurred when he was younger than 10 years old.
