Study design and technique description. (a) Diagram of rodent studies. The treated rats were fed 0.01% diethylnitrosamine (DEN) for 12 weeks but it was not administered to the control group. B-mode hepatic ultrasound were made at 0 (baseline), 10 and 13 weeks, after which the rats were euthanized and liver samples were submitted for histologic examination; the histologic features were correlated with the 13 weeks ultrasound findings. (b) At each time point, 4–6 B-mode hepatic ultrasound images were acquired in standard imaging planes. 4–8 ROIs were placed on each image and analyzed for the listed textural features.
