Daily body weights (A) and energy intakes (B) over 3 wk on chow or choice diet in study 1. Rats were individually housed in hanging wire mesh cages and divided into two weight-match groups: one group of rats (chow group) remained on chow and the other group (choice group) had free access to chow, 30% sucrose solution, and lard. Choice-diet-fed rats had greater daily energy intake compared with chow-diet-fed rats, but there were no group differences in daily body weights. BL, baseline. Data are means ± SE (n = 8 rats/group).
