Methods Randomised controlled trial conducted at the University Hospital of Bonn, Germany from August 2019 to December 2012
Participants All participants who recommended for selective amygdalohippocampectomy (SAH) were invited to join the study.
Participants had to be at least 16 years old with drug resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy as determined by long‐term EEG, MRI and semiology.
Interventions Selective amygdalohippocampectomy (SAH) with participants randomised to a subtemporal (n = 26 randomised, n = 22 analysed) or transsylvian approach (n = 28 randomised, n = 25 analysed)
Outcomes Primary outcome: Neuropsychological assessments at 12 months; memory, attention and executive functions, language functions (not relevant to this review)
Freedom from seizures according to the ILAE scale at 12 months
