The adjusting delay varies depending on the rat’s choice of the same side (adjustment), the opposite side (alternation, characterizing the exploitation phase of the session), or initiation of a new trial in place of the delay and reward (interruption). (C) In the paradigm, alternating between sides stabilizes the delay, while choosing the same side consecutively adjusts the delay.
