The pair-averaged first passage time (PAFPT) of a discrete-time random walk process is an example of a network observable differing from the corresponding result of the Erdős–Rényi model in the limit of $\beta =1$. In contrast, the result from the modified model described in Sec. “Model definitions and differences” approaches the desired limit. Inset: A minimum in the PAFPT emerges in both the modified as well as the original model, an effect explained in ref.²⁶.
