Table 1.

Cell densities of M. sedula at “0” time point and after 21 days of cultivation with W-POM.

Cultivation time 0 day 21 days

Cell density [cells/ml]
W-POM 4,36E+06 ± 3,97E+05 1,43E+07 ± 1,09E+05
P-MRS 5,34E+06 ± 2,68E+06 4,95E+08 ± 4,35E+08
Pyrite 6,57E+06 ± 3,08E+05 1,55E+09 ± 2,5E+08
No. W-POM added 6,95E+06 ± 7,85E+05 9,53E+04 ± 2,90E+04

Mean and standard deviation of n = 3 biological replicates are represented. When no W-POM was added, cultivation medium was inoculated with cells of M. sedula without additional energy source. For comparison, cell densities of M. sedula grown on pyrite FeS2 and multimetallic Martian Regolith Simulant P-MRS (Kölbl et al., 2017) are provided.
