Elimination of the K. kingae capsule results in K. kingae killing by neutrophils. (A to D) K. kingae strains KK01, KK01 csaA, KK01 pam, and KK01 csaA pam, as indicated, were incubated with (+) or without (−) human neutrophils at an MOI of 10 or 0.1 for 1 h in the presence of 1% HSA or 1% NHS. Survival was determined by dividing the number of recovered CFU by the number of CFU in the inoculum. A total of three biological replicates were performed (n = 3).
