The absence of the K. kingae capsule results in an enhanced neutrophil oxidative burst response. K. kingae rtx mutant strains were incubated with human neutrophils at an MOI of 10 in the presence of 1% HSA or 1% NHS. Chemiluminescence was measured at 5-min intervals for 60 min for kinetic analysis (A and B) or at the 25-min time point (C). A total of three biological replicates were performed (n = 3). Statistical significance was determined using two-way analysis of variance and a Tukey post hoc test. RLU, relative light units; n.s., not significant; **, P < 0.01; ****, P < 0.0001.
