Activity in the NRe/Rh is required for both the encoding and retrieval of associative recognition memory. Infusion of the GABA receptor agonist muscimol into the NRe/Rh impaired performance in the object-in-place task when infusion occurred 15 min before the sample phase and memory was tested at a 3 h delay, but not when memory was tested after a 5 min delay. In addition, infusion of muscimol 15 min before the test phase impaired performance in the object-in-place task. Data are shown as mean ± SEM. n = 12. ***p < 0.001.
