Host factor H is not essential for B. hermsii survival during mammalian infection. Representative plots of B. hermsii numbers in the blood of infected wild‐type and Cfh −/− mice over a 16‐day study, as determined by dark‐field microscopy. The limit of detection of B. hermsii in blood was 102 bacteria/μl. There were no significant differences in peak bacteremia levels for any mice (P>0.1 by Student's t‐test).
