Published transmission spectra for the active Ni in the Ni i-pr complex, on an absolute scale, displaying the expected XAS spectral trend for absorption coefficients (Chantler et al., 2015). These measurements were taken simultaneously on the same samples as Fig. 1. This illustrates the large differences in structure and spectral profiles of transmission data (μ/ρ)(ρt)s from the fluorescence measurement, Inline graphic shown in Fig. 1, observed in many data sets. The standard error across the spectrum is of the order of 10−4 in absolute units or <0.01% on the raw data.
