Histopathological analysis supports severe neuroinflammation in the CNS of CX₃CR1^−/− mice. (A) Brain sections of CX₃CR1^+/+ and CX₃CR1^−/− mice were prepared and stained with H&E 5 days after JEV infection via footpad, intranasal, and intraperitoneal inoculation. Representative photomicrographs of the brain were obtained from blood vessel areas, meninges, and ventricles. (B) Detection of infiltrated CD11b⁺ myeloid cells in the brain. Brain sections prepared from CX₃CR1^+/+ and CX₃CR1^−/− mice were used for the detection of CD11b⁺ myeloid cells by staining with anti-CD11b mAb. CD11b⁺ cells were detected in cortical parenchyma area of the brain. Images are representative of sections (200×) derived from at least four mice.
