Experimental paradigm of Ross et al. (2018). Participants first studied whole objects and whole scenes. Later, in the scanner, memory was tested by presenting a patch of the studied image and asking participants to indicate with a button-press whether they recalled the corresponding object or scene. Recall was verified in a post-scan test in which participants again saw patches and this time typed the name of the recalled object/scene.
