At encoding participants decided whether visually presented objects were common or uncommon or had more edges or curves. At retrieval participants were presented with previously studied and new objects and made old/new judgments to stimuli using a 6-point confidence scale. For objects attracting old judgments participants also indicated, again using a 6-point confidence scale, in which of the two tasks the object was originally studied.
