G6P is consumed by G6PDH to enter the G6PDH shunt. G6P re-enters the Calvin-Benson cycle as Ru5P. Overall, the shunt consumes three ATP and two NADP+ and produces two NAPDH. One CO2 molecule is lost for every G6P that enters the shunt.
