Table 2.

Incidence and determinants of hepatocellular carcinoma in autoimmune hepatitis.16 Tansel and colleagues recently published a systematic review and meta-analysis of the incidence of HCC and associated risk factors among patients with AIH. A total of 6528 patients were included. Based on the reported HCC incidence rates shown in this meta-analysis, the authors suggest that here may be a role for HCC surveillance in patients with AIH and cirrhosis.

Study Size 25 studies (20 papers, 5 abstracts)
including 6528 AIH patients (118 with HCC)
Cohort Median size: 170 patients (25–1721)
