General cell-cycle model highlighting the genes that respond to Ustilago maydis infection. Cell cycle consist of four phases: G1, S, G2 and M. S-phase (Synthesis) is where DNA replication takes place, and M-phase (Mitosis), where nuclear division occurs. G1 and G2 are gap phases where some checkpoints to control cell cycle progression take place. A more detailed explanation of the cycle is given in the text. Genes differentially regulated (|log2FC| ≥ 1.5) are shown. Circles at the beginning of S-phase and middle of G2 and mitosis represent cell-cycle progression checkpoints. Colors represent gene expression profile: red = upregulated and blue = downregulated.
