Emotion classification task. Each trial started with the presentation of a fixation cross (2 s), followed by an emotional face (150 ms). After a blank screen for 2 s, subjects were asked to indicate the emotion displayed. Faces were shifted vertically on the screen, so that participants started gaze either on the eyes (trial A) or on the mouth (trial B) of the presented emotional face. Hypothesized gaze behavior of ASD group in red and of NT group in blue.
