The orthographic consistency effect can be seen as an increase in RTs between the consistent and inconsistent trials without TMS. Stimulation delivered to the SMG eliminated this effect by increasing response times for consistent trials without affecting inconsistent trials. In contrast, stimulation of the IPS had no significant effect, resulting in a significant orthographic consistency advantage for both TMS and non-TMS trials.
