Axon count (A) from whole sections of toluidine blue-stained sections (n = 6 nerves). Control fibers were associated with an average of 886.5 ± 561.0 axons, and RGD-fiber with 794.7 ± 493.3 axons per whole nerve section. The groups were not significantly different. Axon fiber density (B) was 0.003953 ± 0.001412 axons/µm² for the control fiber group, and 0.006214 ± 0.0003539 axons/µm² for the RGD-fiber group. No significant differences were found between the groups. The total nerve sections used for the analysis can be seen in Figure S4.
