The number of papers published in 2005–2014 is based on searches of the Scopus database (http://www.scopus.com) using the species names as a query. For H. arabidopsidis, a search for the alternative name ‘Peronospora parasitica’ was also performed and the combined number is shown. Searches with the terms ‘oomycete*’ and ‘Phytophthora’ yielded 2068 and 4059 articles, respectively.
