The ΔFgvam7 mutant was defective in disease spread. (A) Infection assay with tomato fruits. Conidial suspensions of PH‐1, ΔFgvam7 and ΔFgvam7/FgVAM7 were injected into tomato fruits as described in Experimental procedures. Photographs were taken at 4 days post‐inoculation (dpi). (B) Infection assays with flowering wheat heads. 10 μL conidial suspensions (1 × 106 conidia/mL) of the indicated strains were injected into the floret in the sixth spikelet of the flowering wheat head. Typical heads were photographed at 14 dpi.
