Detection of cystatin expression in transgenic plantain lines. Total soluble protein extracted from roots of transgenic plantain lines was analysed by western blotting. The M _r of the transgenic maize cystatin is indicated (). Nontransformed Gonja manjaya control (NTC) protein extract was spiked with the indicated quantity of 6 × His‐tagged maize cystatin for positive controls (); the increase in the size of the band in the positive controls corresponds to the size of the 6 × His tag.
