Temporal structure of WNV strains in the (A) US dataset and (B) the NYS dataset. Genetic distance refers to proportion of nucleotide differences relative to inferred root. Each WNV isolate is designated by an individual point and shown relative to the best fit line resulting from linear regression analyses. Rate refers to evolutionary rate, i.e. mutations/base/year.
