IR evidence that the phenol and guanidinium groups in (p-phenolyl)dodecylguanidinium bromide are independently solvated by DMSO, that is, there is no significant interaction between them. The IR spectrum of this salt (purple) resembles a simple sum of absorbances due to separate samples of dodecylguanidinium bromide (red) and p-cresol (blue). All spectra were obtained in DMSO.
