The effectors glutarimide, hydantoin, succinimide, and ethosuximide cause developmental defects as evoked by thalidomide. These effects can be alleviated by injecting zcrbnYW/AA mRNA, encoding a thalidomide-insensitive cereblon mutant. In comparison, barbiturate does not cause any effects. The total number of fish in each experiment is given below the bars, while the bars indicate the percentages of these fish fulfilling the criteria for no, mild, medium, or severe effects.
