Amazon and regional relationships between basal-area-weighted wood density, biomass, and basal area. For each variable pair, regression models were fitted across the whole data set and for each region. Regions are Western Amazon, Brazilian Shield, East-Central Amazon, Guyana Shield, following Feldpausch et al. 2012. Statistically significant relationships are plotted. Note that regression models with basal-area-weighted wood density predict Amazon biomass with much greater fidelity than simple relationships with basal area alone (Tables S3, S4).
