HSV-1, HSV-2 and VZV promoter schemes are shown in blue, red and green, respectively. The TAATGARAT region is shown as a blue/red box with the VP16 protein nearby (or as a green box with ORF10 protein in the case of VZV); the TATA box is represented as a red box; the arrow indicates the position of the Transcriptional Start Site (TSS). The position of each of these features on the double helix with respect to the TSS is on scale.
