Exacerbated DSS-induced colitis in mice infected with male-only S. mansoni worms following anthelmintic treatment. Disease activity index (DAI) score of DSS-exposed MO-infected mice that were untreated or pretreated 8 weeks postinfection with anthelmintic praziquantel (300 mg/kg) and oxamniquine (200 mg/kg) (PZQ-OX) daily for 4 days orally to remove worms. Uninfected DSS-treated mice were used as controls (6 to 7 mice per group). Data are representative of 2 independent experiments and are presented as means ± SEM. Statistical difference in the values between uninfected mice and other groups for the DAI area under the curve was determined using two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s multiple-comparison test. ***, P < 0.001.
