Effects of Late Pleistocene sea level fluctuations in the Indo-Australasian region. Vast quantities of sea water was locked up in continental ice sheets during the glacial periods. As a consequence, sea levels intermittently sank up to 120 m exposing large landmasses (yellow) within the Sunda and Sahul Shelves, respectively. This allowed dispersal of faunal and floral elements between shelf areas that were isolated during the interglacials. The figure is based on maps published in [5] with permission from the author
