Figure 3.

Quantitation of the immunohistochemistry data showed a significant increase in the number of ED1-positive cells (microglia/macrophages; A), the number of OX22-positive cells (T-/B-cells; B), and the area of OX42 expression (microglia; C) in LPS-treated fMOG-EAE animals 24 h after LPS injection that was not seen in any other group. Ranked MBP data also revealed greater demyelination in the LPS-treated fMOG-EAE group than any other group (D). Animals were injected with LPS on day 29; time points in brackets represent after LPS injection. *, #, † denote significant differences between LPS-treated fMOG-EAE group and untreated fMOG-EAE, LPS-treated IFA, and untreated IFA groups, respectively (*,#,†p < 0.05; **, ##, ††p < 0.01; ***,###,†††p < 0.001). All values are expressed as mean ± SD: black bars, LPS-treated fMOG-EAE (n = 7); dark grey bars, untreated fMOG-EAE (n = 7); light grey bars, LPS-treated IFA (n = 5); and white bars, untreated IFA (n = 5).
