Diagram of the microfluidic device using PDMS molds with basal and apical channels. The basal channel is the straight channel on the bottom layer of the device, where cells like human colon cancer cells (HCT116) can be grown. The next layer is the semipermeable membrane, and the top layer is the apical channel, which is the Z-shaped channel. As media is flowed through the apical channel, nutrients permeate the membrane and reach the cells in the basal channel.
