A, In the control condition, the neuron showed no response enhancement and an underlying subadditive computation at all levels of stimulus effectiveness. B, Although cortical deactivation reduced the sensory responses (revealing that some of the sensory drive came from cortex), the underlying subadditive computation showed little change.
