Evoked synaptic currents in CA1 neurons of controls and maternally stressed offspring. Whole-cell patch-clamp recording was performed at a holding potential of −60 mV in normal ACSF and Mg2+-free ACSF in each group (A, 4 neurons from 3 control mice; C, 3 neurons from 2 maternally stressed offspring). In the bottom panels, evoked EPSC was first recorded in Mg2+-free ACSF and subsequently in the presence of AP-5 and CNQX. B, The slow component of the EPSC from control neurons was lowered by 100 μm AP-5 and the fast component that remained disappeared after additional treatment with 10 μm CNQX (n = 12 neurons from 8 control mice). D, No AP-5-sensitive slow component was observed in 10 neurons from 6 maternally stressed offspring.
