Endogenous calcium-independent PKC Apl II translocates from the cytoplasm to the membrane of sensory neurons but not motor neurons. Each image is of a coculture of an Aplysia SN and a motor neuron (MN) stained with an antibody to PKC Apl II. Cultures exposed to 5-HT (right) show a concentration of immunofluorescence in the membrane of sensory neurons compared with controls (left), but this shift in immunofluorescence is not apparent in motor neurons.
