Figure 6.

Responses to moderate flash strengths in rods lacking rhodopsin phosphorylation. A, Representative recordings from a RK–/– rod to three flashes that each activated ∼15 R* on average. Flashes were delivered at t = 0. Responses to individual flashes recovered in a series of steps; these step-like events frequently reactivated, typically for several tens of seconds after the flash. B, Mean response to 17 flashes (same rod as in A), plotted on a semilog scale. Response has been decompressed to allow for exponential saturation of the current (see Materials and Methods). Dark current was 8.2 pA. C, Mean responses to flashes that activated ∼15 R* on average from representative rods (RK–/– from A, B; RK–/–Arr–/–; p48RK–/–Arr–/–) and mean response of a m44RK–/–Arr–/– rod to a flash that activated 0.92 R* per flash. Dark currents were (in pA) 8.2 (RK–/–), 15.2 (RK–/–Arr–/–),13.4 (p48RK–/–Arr–/–), and 15.4 (m44RK–/–Arr–/–).
