Table 3.

Chronotropic incompetence and markers of heart failure. The independent variable was chronotropic incompetence (defined as chronotropic index [CI] <0.6). The dependent variables were N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT pro-BNP) >300 pg ml−1, ventilatory equivalent for carbon dioxide (VE/VCO2) at the anaerobic threshold ≥34, peak oxygen consumption (VO2) ≤14 ml kg−1 min−1, and HR recovery (HRR) ≤6 beats min−1 decrease within the first minute after the end of exercise. Results of univariable (unadjusted) and multivariable (adjusted) logistic regression analyses are presented as odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals and associated P-values. Variables were selected for inclusion in the multivariable model using stepwise selection.
