Summary of the number of K+ spikes and corresponding quantifiable glucose dips. Observation of a K+ spike confirmed SD in the vicinity of the probe. In every case, except for 5d aCSF, the majority of the K+ spikes were accompanied by a quantifiable glucose dip. Only the quantifiable glucose dips are included in Figures 47. The noise in a 10-min glucose baseline prior to each needle prick was used to create a threshold quantifiable glucose value (see text and Figure S4 for details).
