Inhibition of reduction of BTOs to their N-1-oxides by the cell-excluded electron acceptor WST-1. SiHa cells were seeded in 96-well plates at 10⁶ cells/mL and exposed to the compounds (50 μM) with the indicated concentrations of WST-1 under anoxia for 2 h. Total (pooled intracellular and extracellular) amounts of the 1-oxide metabolites were determined by HPLC. Values are mean and SEM for two experiments with triplicate cultures at each concentration.
