Piezo1 promotes tumorigenesis of prostate cancer. High expression of Piezo1 channel and its activation may induce Ca2+ influx. Subsequently, intracellular Ca2+ increase directly or indirectly activates Akt, mTOR, upregulating the expression of cyclin D1 and CDK4. Phosphorylation of Akt and mTOR, followed by activation of the cyclin D1/CDK4 complex, may facilitate cell survival, cell cycle progression, cell proliferation and migration, which in turn may promote the tumorigenesis of prostate cancer.
