Pathology in DOX treated acute and recovery phase mice. Regions of myofiber loss and frank replacement fibrosis were noted, most commonly in atria (A, acute phase), and rarely in ventricles (D, recovery phase). These areas were accompanied by macrophage infiltration (B, E) and myofibroblast proliferation (C) consistent with fibroplasia. Rare myofibers were matrix metalloproteinase 2 (F, recovery phase animal) or caspase-3 positive (G, acute phase animal).
