Mediastinal masses pose a very high anesthetic risk due to potential for complete airway collapse after the induction d anesthesia
Maintenance of spontaneous ventilation should be considered
Rescue position should be determined before the induction of anesthesia
Patients may also have superior vena cava syndrome, pulmonary artery and cardiac compression
There should be consideration for cardiopulmonary bypass on standby in patients at high risk for complete airway collapse
