Numbers of quadriceps motoneurons in untreated animals, saporin-injected animals that either received no further treatment (SAP) or were given ad lib exercise (SAP+EXERCISE), and intact animals given ad lib exercise (intact+EXERCISE) at four weeks after saporin injection, expressed as a ratio of motoneuron number ipsilateral to the saporin-injected muscle relative to that on the untreated side. Saporin killed approximately 21% of the ipsilateral quadriceps motoneurons, regardless of subsequent treatment.
