Intensity is based on silver grain counts: + (>10 grains/25 μm2), ++ (>20 grains/25 μm2), +++ (>50 grains/25 μm2), and ++++ (>90 grains/25 μm2). A double quantitative score indicates signified lower levels of mRNA surrounding spots of more intense signal.
