(A) MITOL expression was also reduced in primary astrocytes isolated from eKO brain. Isolated and cultured primary astrocytes were subjected to immunoblotting with indicated antibodies. (B–E) reduced size of mitochondria in MITOL eKO primary astrocytes. Cultured primary astrocytes were immunostained with indicated antibodies, followed by the quantitative analysis of mitochondrial morphology. The lower panels show high-magnification images of the boxed regions. Scale bar represents 10 μm. The size and number of mitochondria within resolvable 225 μm² area of a cell were calculated using Fiji from at least five cells in each independent experiment (C, D).
