Mediation model testing whether brain potentials account for the association between ADHD symptom count and task error rates. The main effect of ADHD symptoms on error rates may be thought of as the “total effect”, as illustrated by path c (A). However, the “total” effect of ADHD on accuracy may be partitioned into “direct” (path c’, B) and “indirect” effects (paths a and b). The direct effect c’ reflects the reduction from the total effect to the indirect effect, which is mathematically equivalent to the product of a and b.
